Should we live again? Perhaps one more time?
In your heart, you know, we live but once.
This time.

Meadow Larks

I am one accustomed to living my dreams...
I am one accustomed to living in the dark
My eyes see only memories
My ears hear meadowlarks
If I smile for you now
My teeth will fall out
And my sweet smile
Turn into a blazing shout of
"Wait for me, dear,
in gardens and in streams.
Someday I'll grow arms
If only in my dreams".

When I sat on the edge of the Abyss of Days
My self looked back at me in wonder
When I sat on the edge of The Abyss of Days
My self asked me where I'd been
"To the Land-Where-Everything-is-Lost,
And to the sea that no longer knows me.
And to the sky, the sky, that great open eye,
that rolled backwards into its starry lid
to gather the moon lens."
When I sat on the Abyss of Days
this is what my self said to me,
"Gather rain in a bowl, gather pollen in a sack,
trace your name in blood through time,
never ever look back."

Destroyed
01:44
|
|||
It has been seconds since my childish dreams were destroyed,
Since my smile became a proclamation of the world's wound.
It has been minutes since my childish dreams were destroyed,
Since my smile became a proclamation of the world's wound.
It has been hours since my childish dreams were destroyed,
Since my smile became a proclamation of the world's wound.
It has been days since my childish dreams were destroyed,
Since my smile became a proclamation of the world's wound.
It has been weeks since my childish dreams were destroyed,
Since my smile became a proclamation of the world's wound.
It has been months since my childish dreams were destroyed,
Since my smile became a proclamation of the world's wound.
It has been years since my childish dreams were destroyed...

Songs Unsung
04:12
|

This is the shivering window that let them in
The needle-pin that only catches at the eye's golden rim
O, dear Eye that softly looks,
Glance swiftly lest they set
The unicorn's trap for you
Without reflection
Within remorse
Without reason
Within your course
In time your soul do keep
Forever lose conscience
Instead of sleep
Let the darkest night slip away
Do not bind it with the moon
Let it slip away like sorrow or a tune
Let the light of day slip away
Do not bind it with the sun
Let it slip away like songs unsung

Wait In Silence
05:27
|
|||
I wait in silence
Birds fly backwards
Children, like insects trapped in amber,
Frozen in a moment,
Not yet completed a ring around the rosey
Mariam comes to me and smiles
A cabinet in her chest opens
To reveal a dragon in the shape of a little girl
I crawl into its mouth
And wait in darkness
The hand of the clock reaches out and takes mine
We walk barefoot through fields of snow
And come to a blood red rosebush
A bee buzzes the secrets of his honeycomb home
Into the ear of a single rose
Whose petals close on their conversation
As a door on a hidden rite
It fades to green, becomes a bud
I wait in silence
It opens again
A newborn babe lies within
Sacred creation of their copulation
Was this rose a whorehouse?
I steal the child
And race through a garden overgrown with weeds
A bone-colored gryphon,
Drawing circles in the soil,
Asks where I might place the seed
"Unto the earth! Unto the earth!
You see, the child is but a worm.
It is unborn."
He takes the child from me
And plants it tenderly in the dirt
"You cannot give what isn't yours to take,"
He smiles.
And I wait in shame.
Dew crawls across the blades of grass
And falls into the sky,
Quenching the clouds' thirst
They cry from the want of it
I'll drown unless they stop their crying
The world is blanketed in a warm, shallow ocean of tears
Little birds sing, "it will leave us nowhere to land"!
Christ's body floats to the surface and they sing again,
"It will lead us from nowhere to land"!
They take the oars and his body as a ship,
Now happily singing seafaring songs.
I wait in silence as they disappear beyond the horizon.
A dappled gray horse idles slowly across the water to me
He stands on human legs
His arm stretches out and points the way
"Go hither but never wither".
And so I begin my journey in silence.
Is westward the way home?
Can I go where once I could not roam?
I'm washed up on an emerald green island
I see an alabaster salamander in a blue-green bottle
I cannot have it though my need is great.
Kate skips and sings in the woods but I cannot catch her.
Jeweled dragonflies carry me away to the place where I was born
They whisper my name
And say my hair was once the color of corn
Stars fall to earth
And I am surrounded by fireflies
They hum and circle lazily about
I wait in silent spaces
He comes to me in a boat
With Chinese lanterns and laughter
We drag our fingers across the sky
And create shimmering ripples,
Bending the starlight
The earth is now frozen in thought
A halo of fish around his head
His eyes dance as if lit by flame
Diana picks up her skirts,
Sparkling rays of moonlight,
And exits the ballroom of night
Whispering, "I must go and kill my husband now".
A golden stag charges up from the distance,
Mariah in all her painted glory,
I close my eyes and am afraid
I open them and I am blind
The boat breaks apart
The planks hover over the water like vapor
Then disappear
I lie down
I am alone floating over the water
Like a dry leaf I will not sink
I will not be undone.
I land on the Edge of Reason
In a soft field of swaying green grass
While the weaver spins life's tales before my eyes
"Oh Eight-Legged-Scribe-of-the-World's-Wonders,
I wonder that there is only one web
Though many threads in which we are caught?"
She drops down to my ear and whispers,
"You have read from my book of knowledge
Now you must do me a favor..."
She crawls into my brain.
There she will nest.
When my winter has come,
And I am gone to summer fields,
When my egg is cracked,
Her brood will burst forth
On the broken silven strings of Orpheus's lyre
And all will be interwoven.
But that day is not yet passed
And so, again,
I wait in silence.
